I usally hate fads with a stubborn passion. I still refuse to watch or read Harry potter, I also refuse to watch Titanic and King Kong. So it must be the girlfriend factor that got me to watch Twilight as its her favorite book/series of all time (and she read them years before they got really popular).

I have a thing for vampire movies judging by my dvd collection of Underworld, Blade Interview with a Vampire and Angel (tv series). So it wasn’t too hard for me to get into this movie even if its a teeny romance underneath all the supernatural stuff.

The movie would of probably been a lot weirder/crap if Melody hadn’t informed me of what was happening during some scenes. Such as when Edward meets Bella for the first time and looks like he hates her when he’s just really stopping himself from attacking her. It’s explained later but hearing it from Mel while the scene was going on made it better.

I haven’t read the book but I thought they should of made the movie longer to fit in some of the other characters more like Edwards family who you hardly learn anything about. Other than that their wasn’t a whole lot I didn’t like about the movie, I generally enjoyed it mostly because I was expecting to hate it.

I’m going to read the books now because I’m interested in it from the movie and because their Mel’s favorite. The lore seems pretty cool as well.

I’m giving Twilight: 7 / 10
For being a lot better than I expected and for having a decent soundtrack.

I missed out on seeing Clone Wars at the movies which sucks because the movie turned out brilliantly.

Clone Wars takes place in the three years between Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones and Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith. The movie serves as a introduction to the clone wars tv series, which I’m totally buying when season 1 comes out on dvd.

The story is centred around Anakin Skywalker and his padawan learner Ahsoka “Snips” Tano trying to rescue Jabba the Hutt’s son Rotta and Anakin’s relationship with his padawan.

I really enjoyed this movie as it brought all the fun and humour of the first trilogy back. I really couldn’t find anything to dislike about the movie. Everything from the awesome stylised CGI to the sound was great and I loved the dialogue.

The only thing that I didn’t like was Ziro the Hutt who just puzzled me. I don’t want to spoil anything so I’ll just leave it at that.

I’ve seen some of the series proper and disliked at first but after a few episodes it really grew on me and now I’m totally hooked.

I’m giving Star Wars: The Clone Wars: 8 / 10
For bringing back that old school star wars adventure and fun!

Having absorbed the first season of veronica mars over the last two weekends. I thought I’d share my thoughts on the series with the rest of you.

For those not in know, Veronica Mars is an American TV series about the title character Veronica Mars. Who is a high school student with a P.I. father and who also moonlights as a private investigator herself. The series is kinda of like Buffy mixed with a old school detective novel, which equates to awesome in my books.

The first season deals with the aftermath of Lilly Kane’s death. Who was Veronica’s best friend and also her ex-boyfriend’s sister. Veronica’s life has fallen apart, her father has lost his job as town Sheriff mostly due to him blaming Lilly’s father for the murder, her mother has left town for unknown reasons and she has been outcast from her circle of friends for siding with her father. The new sheriff (the former deputy) continues the case. A local man Abel Koontz is arrested, tried and sent to jail for the crime, but neither Veronica or her father believe he is the real killer.

Normally first seasons of shows are mostly promising but a bit weak in season long story arc’s. Veronica Mars went against the trend and had a really great story long arch as Veronica tries to solve the murder of her best friend, with many plot twists that keep you guessing until the last episode of the season.

Things I love about the series are:

Veronica’s amusing interactions with her father such as when he tells her not to investigate a case then tells her to be careful when she does.

Interesting mysteries that aren’t obvious.

The way that Veronica gets everyone to do favours for her and she gets back at people who have done wrong by her or others.

I’m giving the season 4/5 because of the awesome story arcs and general solid mysteries. It would of been 5/5 if there had been more character development.
